14 September: Season Opener
It’s that
time of year again. Time for the Wednesday
Wanderers to dig out that extra layer of clothing and head outdoors. We don’t have to worry about toques or gloves
yet, but it was only seven degrees this morning, a lot cooler than it has been
for many weeks.
Our first
adventure of the season took us to an old favourite – Foley Mountain – for a
relaxed stroll around the forest.
It's approaching Fall, but the orange color of the forest floor was not an autumn shade. The ground cover was a bright orange usually reserved for warning signs – and that is what it was. We met a busy young lady armed with a can of paint, spraying the poison ivy. It’s not, as she explained, as simple as that. Poison ivy is sneaky, disguising itself well, and growing amongst similar perfectly harmless plants. But it was no match for this person, who was singling out the culprits, so that visitors to the park can spot them - even in the dark now!

Our short
