The
Rideau Trail 2018 End-to-End Hikes:
21.
Rushmore Road (17B) to Corkstown Road (18G)
Here’s a question for my friends in UK and Ireland: could you hike 300 km through your
countryside, over a period of seven months between March and September, on twenty one separate
walks, without once being rained on?
That’s what we’ve just done here in Eastern Ontario. What’s more, on ten of those hikes, it was
cloudless, and on only one walk - today’s trip - did we not see any sun (or
perhaps we did?). It’s been that kind of
year.
This long journey from Lake Ontario north to the
Ottawa River is almost done. Just twenty
one kilometres left, to reach the heart of Canada’s Capital.
Let today’s pictures do the talking.

Rushmore Road, Ontario's "prairies", under threat of rain.
But it stayed dry all day. |

A pleasant short detour off Steeple Hill Crescent |

One of our hikers said that this might make a good painting.
Sorry, this is the best my tiny camera could do. |
Mr. Mowat the welder lives here |
We hoped this said "Garlic Sale", not "Garlic Ale". |
Fallowfield Church: a favourite Rideau Trail waypoint |
Contrasts: from quiet green byways...... |
...to busy city streets (Old Richmond Road) |
Here's someone you could vote for (Steve Anderson) |
A few touches of Fall colors, but not many |
Good trail markers in Ottawa's Greenbelt |
Some of the prettiest woodland on the Rideau Trail |
At the junction with the popular Lime Kiln blue loop |
A superb long boardwalk west of Old Richmond Road |
Wet patches in the woodland |
These green pathways lead into the heart of Ottawa |
Admiring the decorations |
Crossing the huge old railway bridge across Robertson Road |
The path leads north through farmland to Timm Drive |
Crossing under the busy (and noisy) 417 Highway... |
...where there's some impressive graffiti |
