Don’t underestimate Frontenac Provincial Park.  A crossing of the Park from west to east may seem easy enough on the map.  But when you’re in there, scales are deceptive.  Even on a perfect sunny day with a strong breeze at our backs, the thirteen hikers had to work hard to make it safely through.

Highlight was about half-way through the twenty kilometre hike, at Flag Pole Hill, with the best vistas on the entire Rideau Trail.  But when you have a bag of gems, who can say which shines the brightest?

The final hills, east of Perth Road, seemed a final test of our resolve to make Maple Leaf Road today, but we succeeded, and were already looking forward to the next leg of our End-to-End journey from Kingston to Ottawa.

Heading into Frontenac Park along Salmon Lake Road

Early part of the trail was damp underfoot

Plenty of low ridges along the route

We kept up a good pace

Some handy bridges across creeks

Climbing the open slopes of Flag Pole Hill

Views to NW

Our party today

A strong breeze at the top of Flag Pole Hill

This sign was made by a talented RTA member from Kingston

Cairns and posts guided us through the landscape

Several lonely lakes and swamps

Passing a beaver dam

Devil's Gorge

Stopping to do some trail improvements

T|he new South Slide Lake sign had blown down in the wind

More hills!

Leading to a high point

Luckily not much traffic on Perth Road
