4 October: The Biggest Challenge: Slide Lake Loop
| Low sun climbs through the early morning mist: Westport |
Note: click on pictures for full size view.
I’m not being lazy – believe me.
But after completing this all-day circuit of over twenty five kilometres
through the most rugged sections of Frontenac Provincial Park, I just don’t have
the energy for a witty narrative for the latest chapter of our Frontenac Challenge. So
instead, I’ll let the pictures do the talking.

| Our energetic group at the start of this 25+ kilometre hike |
| Setting out on the first leg of the Slide Lake loop |
| Few signs of Fall colors yet |
| We found our secret code early in this hike |
| Admiring the view from Mink Lake Lookout |
| Mink Lake Lookout |
| Some steep drops |
| And hidden, watery valleys |
| Another grand viewpoint - above Slide Lake |
| A granite world |
| No danger of getting lost! |
| We followed the Rideau Trail along the southern portion of this long loop |
A reluctance to cross the bridge? No! we're just idling away five minutes, while our leader
has gone back a short way to recover her hiking poles |
| The magnificent Flagpole Hill |
| Colorful mushroom |
| Busy log |
| Shadows were lengthening |
| A few splashes of color |
| Some impressive board-walks, near Cedar Lake |
| Visiting trumpeter swans |
| Final weary kilometre as the sun drops |
| The successful challengers |
The sun had set by the time we returned to Perth
