Long-Distance Views

On our hike up the Calabogie Peaks last weekend (see Blog entry "Skywalkers" below), we could see the Quebec Hills, over 50 km away, from our vantage point on the summit of the ski hill.  It was an impressive view.

This reminded me of a hiking trip I made back in 2011, to a remote mountain-top along the edge of the Rocky Mountains, north of Calgary, where I could just make out the city from a direct line-of-sight distance of 105 kilometres, and a shortest driving distance of 205 kilometres.

Calgary from 105 km away - as the crow flies

Hard to believe, but true!
