After the Flood: The Elbow Valley

Fri. 9 August:  After the Flood:  The Elbow Valley

On Friday I biked along a misty Elbow Valley from the Elbow River bridge to the Elbow Falls.  Here are a few photos of the incredible changes which the floods have caused.

Statistics:

Total Distance: 19.0 km (bike)
Height Gain:         490 ft.
Max. Elev.:        5,050 ft.
Time on Trail:    1 hr. 54 mins.
Start:                  8.15 am
Elbow Falls:       9.03 am
Ret. to car:        10.09 am
Temp:               +11 to +13 deg.C

Weather:           Overcast, misty

Approaching the Elbow River bridge
Old bridge and temporary new bridge
Crossing the Elbow
Looking east from across the river
The debate about whether this is a "pond" or not
is now over, as the next picture shows
Allen Bill pond completely wiped out
Puddles beside the road opposite Station Flats
A pretty stretch of highway at Elbow River Launch turnoff
At Elbow Falls
Debris seems impossibly high above the river
Huge trees and picnic table tossed by the floods
Twisted pathways

Paths and picnic areas have disappeared
Destruction in the picnic area above Elbow Falls
